To Those Heading Off To College: Good Luck

So you'll be off to college in another month, eh?

Well, Carrie Lynch has a few things you may want to consider.

Congress cut student aid by $12 billion in the most recent federal budget while interest rates on student loans climbed two percentage points July 1, the largest increase in history. The maximum Pell Grant has been frozen for four years at $4,050, which "barely covers a third of an annual public-college bill." Not surprisingly, two-thirds of all graduates of four-year colleges now finish with sizable loans. Public college graduates have an average $16,000 of debt, while private school graduates have an average $20,000.

Again I ask the question; Why does the Republican Party hate education so much?

The Republican Party doesn't hate education. They just happen to believe that the government shouldn't completely subsidize education. If you believe in free education for college students, then go ahead. However, Republicans don't support that.

I just graduated from college. I may generally support Republicans, but I supported Governor Doyle when he raised tuition. We should be paying for what we're using, and if the state budget deficit is as bad as it is, I'm okay with making up part of that difference. Sure, it ticks me off that Doyle raided student funds for other purposes, but that's another story....

Either way, it's nice to see a candidate with a blog going. Keep it up!
